If there ever were a woman who doesn’t care for roses, it would be Gabrielle Chanel. The camellia, with its majestic fullness and neat petals arranged with an almost geometric precision, appealed to her more.
So enamoured was Mademoiselle with the flower that she adorned her Parisian apartment on 31 rue Cambon with it. Today, the bloom continues to be a significant design inspiration for the fashion house, and is used as a motif in everything from dresses and leather accessories to jewellery.
The camellia’s latest appearance is in the new Bouton de Camélia fine jewellery collection, comprising six pieces including two necklaces, a brooch, a pair of earrings and two rings. All fully paved in round brilliant-cut white diamonds, it’s a sparkling tribute to the flower that meant so much to the fashion legend.
